July Skylight Salon

Yearning for witty repartee and intellectual stimulation? How about wine and hors d'oeuvres? Come join us for our new monthly series, Skylight Salon, where our staff shares their faves from small presses and independent publishers. A modern-day mixer for the literary minded.
This month we feature:

Justin stands up for the little guy with U.L.A., Underground Literary Alliance, who describes themselves as follows:
If Dave Eggers is koolaid, and Rick Moody is milk, then we're the literary equivalent of booze!
Liz highlights the New York City indie press, New Directions Publishing, dedicated to reviving classics as well as bringing readers stellar translated works from Bolano and Celine. Since 1936, New Directions has supported famous writers before they were famous.
Monica tips her hat to the New Hampshire based Steerforth Press and their fiction imprint, Zoland Books. Steerforth has no particular categorization for their books, they just ask three things of books: to be written well, to engage the reader, and to have something important to say. Indeed!
