SKYLIGHT LITERARY SALON

Yearning for witty repartee and intellectual stimulation? How about wine and hors d'oeuvres? Come join us for our new monthly series, Skylight Salon, where our staff shares their faves from small presses and independent publishers. A modern-day mixer for the literary minded.

This month:

Monica highlights Europa Editions, which was founded in 2005 by Sandro Ferri and Sandra Ozzola Ferri of Rome-based Edizioni e/o, one of Europe's most prestigious independent publishing houses. Europa Editions blends the design jacket trends of Europe and America to create colorful and striking covers. Within these great covers you'll find some of the best literary translated fiction as well as high-end mystery and noir, children's illustrated fiction and memoir. A truly translatlantic publishing house making big lit waves.

Justin gives much love to the Port Townsend, WA, publishing house, Feral House Press. Feral House puts out kickass, high quality non-fiction on forbidden topics. They have also found their new imprint, Process, Media, which published The Source. If you wander on the dark side, this is a good starter press for you!

Charles straps on some combat boots to tout the gritty wares of AK Press. Located in Oakland, CA, AK is all about anarchy, readicals and pirates. They supply the masses with materials of revolution because, hell, no one else is doing it anymore. Stop by and wreak havoc, Charles and AK Press would appreciate it. Corporations stay away!
