Literature in Translation

As impassioned booksellers and bibliophiles, we appreciate the advantage that being an independent bookstore allows us - creating sections in our store that reflect the interests of our staff and our customers. To simply stock anything that comes out or is a darling of a big publisher does a disservice not only to ourselves as well as our discerning readers. And that's why we are proud of our World Literature/Literature in Translation section, dedicated to promoting interesting and diverse literature from around the world - literature that challenges, engages, provokes and incites in us the gamut of emotions.

One of the pleasures of traveling is reading a novel set in that place by a native writer. Do you remember the first time you read The Metamorphosis by Kafka? Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky? Or how about Lolita by Nabokov? If it weren't for these translated works, our landscape of literature in America would be vastly different. Whith the World Literature/Literature in Translation section, we aim to cull the new, the innovative, and the little known classics.

In our regular fiction section, we have the heavies like Murakami, Celine, Duras, Dostevsky, Zweig and many of the other well known international authors. But in our World Literature/Literature in Translation section, we present to you books that we hope you will make classics, like:
