Orville and Wilbur are two baby birds that are too young to fly. Their animal friends on the farm give them lots of ideas on how to get up in the air. The birds attempt to build and fly each of these ideas to no avail. As the book progresses, the baby birds grow up and grow into their own feathers. They end up flying high above the farm on their own power and discover that they have had the "right stuff" all along.
