Lucille Lang Day, author of the memoir Married at Fourteen: A True Story, has published creative nonfiction in The Hudson ReviewIstanbul Literary Review, Passages NorthRiver Oak ReviewWillow Review, and many other journals. She is the recipient of the Willow Review Award in Creative Nonfiction and a Notable Essay citation in Best American Essays. She is also the author of a children’s book, Chain Letter, and eight poetry collections and chapbooks, including The Curvature of BlueInfinities, and The Book of Answers. Her first poetry collection, Self-Portrait with Hand Microscope, received the Joseph Henry Jackson Award. She received an MA in English and an MFA in creative writing at San Francisco State University, and also an MA in zoology and a PhD in science and mathematics education at the University of California, Berkeley. The founder and director of a small press, Scarlet Tanager Books, she also served for seventeen years as the director of the Hall of Health, an interactive children’s museum in Berkeley.

Erika Schickel is an essayist, humorist, playwright, solo performer, teacher, and columnist. Her essays and commentary have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, and LA City Beat.  She was a book critic for the Los Angeles Times and Bust Magazine. Her 2007 book You’re Not the Boss of Me: Adventures of a Modern Mom was a People Magazine and WalMart pick. She is the author of the award-winning radio drama Wild Amerika produced by LA Theatre Works for The Play’s the Thing and continues to perform her one-woman shows and readings around Los Angeles. She currently writes the “I On LA” column for LAobserved.com. 

Susan Straight’s new novel Between Heaven and Here is the final book in the Rio Seco trilogy. Take One Candle Light a Room was named one of the best novels of 2010 by the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and Kirkus, and A Million Nightingales was a 2006 finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Her novel Highwire Moon was a finalist for the 2001 National Book Award. Her short story "The Golden Gopher" won the 2008 Edgar Award for Best Mystery Story. She has published stories and essays in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Harpers, McSweeney’s, The Believer, Salon, Zoetrope, Black Clock, and elsewhere. She is Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at UC Riverside. She was born in Riverside, California, where she lives with her family, whose history is featured on susanstraight.com.

Diana Wagman is the author four novels, as well as numerous short stories, essays, and reviews. She is an occasional contributor to the Los Angeles Times. Her second novel, Spontaneous, won the PEN Center USA Literary Award for Fiction in 2001. Wagman also wrote the original screenplay for Delivering Milo, directed by Nick Castle and starring Bridget Fonda and Albert Finney. Her new novel, The Care and Feeding of Exotic Pets, will be released in November 2012.
