At Skylight: A Night of Poetry with Red Hen Press and Alice James Books

Phuong T. Vuong is a Vietnamese American poet and writer from Oakland, CA and author of A Plucked Zither (Red Hen Press, 2023), which won the Benjamin Saltman Poetry Award 2021, and The House I Inherit (Finishing Line Press, 2019). Her publications have appeared in American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry, Prairie Schooner, The Asian American Writers' Workshop: The Margins, and elsewhere. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Literature at the University of California, San Diego (Kumeyaay) where she researches Asian American queer and feminist aesthetics.

Douglas Manuel was born in Anderson, Indiana and now resides in Long Beach, California. He received a BA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, an MFA in poetry from Butler University, and a PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. His first collection of poems, Testify, won an IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award for poetry, and his poems and essays can be found in numerous literary journals, magazines, and websites, most recently Zyzzyva, Pleiades, and the New Orleans Review. He has traveled to Egypt and Eritrea with The University of Iowa’s International Writing Program to teach poetry. A recipient of the Dana Gioia Poetry Award and a fellowship from the Borchard Foundation Center on Literary Arts, he is a Bayard Rustin Fellow at Whittier College and teaches at Spalding University’s low-res MFA program.

Vandana Khanna is the author of two full length collections, Train to Agra and Afternoon Masala. Her poems have won the Crab Orchard Review First Book Prize, The Miller Williams Poetry Prize, and the Diode Editions Chapbook Competition. Her work has appeared in publications such as the Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day, New England Review, The New Republic, and Guernica. She is a poetry editor at the Los Angeles Review.

Kenji C. Liu is an artist, book designer, and author of Monsters I Have Been (Alice James Books 2019), finalist for the 2020 California and Maine Book Awards for poetry, and Map of an Onion, national winner of the 2015 Hillary Gravendyk Poetry Prize. His writing can be found, among other places, in American Poetry Review, Anomaly, Ecotone, The Feminist Wire, Gulf Coast, several anthologies including Advanced Poetry: A Writer's Guide and Anthology (2023), and two chapbooks, Craters: A Field Guide (2017) and You Left Without Your Shoes (2009).
