WHAT BOOKS presents L.I. HENLEY, MARIANO ZARO, CATHY COLMAN and KATHERINE SILVER as they read from their new books

Join What Books to celebrate the publication of four new books: Whole Night Through by L.I. Henley, Decoding Sparrows by Mariano Zaro, Time Crunch by Cathy Colman, and Echo Under Story by Katherine Silver. 

L.I. Henley was born and raised in the Mojave Desert town of Joshua Tree, California. She is the author of Starshine Road, which won the 2017 Perugia Press Prize. In October 2019, What Books Press, Los Angeles CA, will publish her fifth collection, Whole Night Through. She is a two-time recipient of The Academy of American Poets University Award, and her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Rhino, Diagram, Waxwing, Phoebe, Spillway, Tupelo Quarterly, The Exposition Review, and Zone 3. Mariano Zaro is the author of four bilingual books of poetry. He has two forthcoming poetry collections: Padre Tierra (Olifante, Zaragoza, Spain) and Decoding Sparrows (What Books, Los Angeles, CA). His poems are included in anthologies and literary journals in USA, Mexico and Spain. He has translated into Spanish American poets Philomene Long, Tony Barnstone and Sholeh Wolpé. In 2018, he received the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing Fiction Prize. Zaro hosts a series of video-interviews with prominent poets as part of the literary project Poetry.LA. He is a professor of Spanish at Rio Hondo Community College (CA).

Cathy Colman’s first book Borrowed Dress won the Felix Pollak Prize for Poetry from The University of Wisconsin Press and was on the The Los Angeles Times Bestseller List the first week of its release. Her second collection, Beauty’s Tattoo, was published by Tebot Bach Publications. Her poetry has appeared in The Colorado Review, Ploughshares, The Huffington Post, Gettysburg Review, Prairie Schooner, The Journal, The Southern Poetry Review, Barrow Street, The Los Angeles Review, Quarterly West, Pool, Chance of a Ghost Anthology (Putnam/Tarcher), Writers on Writing (Putnam), LE Poetry and elsewhere. She is a former free-lance reviewer for The New York Times Book Review.

Katherine Silver is an award-winning literary translator and the former director of the Banff International Literary Translation Centre (BILTC). Her most recent and forthcoming translations include works by María Sonia Cristoff, Daniel Sada, César Aira, Julio Cortázar, Juan Carlos Onetti, and Julio Ramón Ribeyro. Echo Under Story, What Books Press, 2019, is her first published novel.
