SO TELL ME, WHAT IS THE SKYLIGHT BOOKS' SIGNED FIRST EDITION CLUB?

I’m glad you asked. Skylight’s Signed First Editions Club entitles subscribers (that’s you!) to a signed first edition of a newly published book. Each month, our staff of highly dedicated bookworms carefully select a title from the best new releases for a book that’s sure to surprise and excite. It might be a novel, a book of nonfiction, a graphic novel, or something else entirely. That’s part of the thrill.

SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE SIGNED FIRST EDITIONS CLUB?

If you're reading this, you're probably already a fan of our carefully curated selection and author events. The Signed First Editions Club reflects our in-store programming which, over the course of eighteen years, has played host to innumerable talents, like David Mitchell, Junot Diaz, and Jennifer Egan, just to name a few. So whether we’re featuring established, critically acclaimed authors, or up-and-coming literary sensations, our Signed First Editions Club is sure to keep you up to date with new and exciting literature.

LET ME ASK YOU THIS. WHAT'S THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A SIGNED FIRST EDITION? WHY IS IT VALUABLE?

A first edition is the original printing of a book. The fact that we’re able to provide you with a signed first edition means you’ve got a chance at picking up a book that will accrue in value.

I'LL ADMIT IT, I'M SUPER CURIOUS, BUT HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST ME?

Membership costs exactly one penny, which allows us to capture your credit card and charge you each month for the list price of each book, typically between $24 and $30, plus shipping and handling, which is a flat $8. Books are shipped via media mail in extra-protective packaging to ensure they arrive to your door in excellent condition. If you live in Los Angeles, you can opt to pick up your book in store and waive the $8 shipping fee. For an extra $1.50, we will happily wrap your jacket in an archival Mylar cover. Sales tax is applied where applicable.

AND IF I DON'T LIKE THE BOOK? CAN I RETURN IT?

Members with on-going subscriptions may refuse up to two (2) titles during a calendar year. Members with six-month memberships can refuse one (1) title during their subscription. To refuse a selection, members must respond within ten days of the title announcement email. Once purchased, however, Signed First Edition club books are non-returnable.

CAN I GIVE THE MEMBERSHIP AS A GIFT?

Absolutely! That’s so thoughtful of you. We’ll even include a note in each package letting the recipient know who this signed first edition is from.

IF I SIGN UP TO PICK UP MY BOOKS IN THE STORE, BUT FORGET TO DO SO, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BOOKS?

We’ll hold the books that are marked for pickup for up to three months. After that, we’ll charge you the flat shipping rate and ship the books to the address you provide at sign-up.

I RECEIVED A CALL/EMAIL ABOUT MY EXPIRED/DECLINED CREDIT CARD. WHAT DO I DO?

If your card is expired/declined, we will contact you immediately. If we don’t receive updated credit card information within a month, your membership will be canceled. Know your credit card is about to expire? Please contact us so there is no disruption in your membership.

DO THE BOOKS I PURCHASE THROUGH THE CLUB QUALIFY FOR MY FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS DISCOUNT?

Of course! You’ll get 20% off the selections that were signed as part of our events program. Some books we’ll be getting signed outside our schedule of in-store events and on those you’ll receive the standard 10% discount. We’ll still have to charge you the $8 shipping and handling fee though. We want to make sure your books arrive in as pristine a condition as possible; so this fee goes towards special packaging for your order.
