So you have watched all 5 seasons of DRIVE TO SURVIVE, now what??? Pick up this book and get ready for the 2023 season..... BOX BOX

It’s the end of 2022. If you haven’t read this yet, do it.

Easily the loveliest book on pregnancy and motherhood that I have ever read. This memoir by Jazmina Barrera is a literary collage of poems, quotes, and essays the author read and engaged with while breastfeeding her child. Barrera’s writing reminds us that pregnancy and birth are universal topics and her book should ultimately be read by everyone.

This short story is the perfect shot of melatonin for kids before bed. The methodical closing of a local community bookstore makes for a very soothing lullaby as you turn each page and say good night to all the books, the cat, and of course the wonderful bookstore staff.

This book by Los Espookys co-creator Julio Torres and 3D animator Julian Glander is my favorite book of 2022. This bright, colorful story about a plunger that wants to become a vase is an exciting departure from traditional children’s books, which tend to promote the ideas of individuality and success. This story encourages children to seek out whatever’s best for themselves, while also finding a meaningful way to contribute to the larger community around them.

A special book about life, friendship and music before social media shaped everything.

This book made me want to be friends with a vampire.

Motherhood is the new horror.

All the flowers for Althea.

I am generally not a fan of short stories, but this collection is excellent.

A very endearing book by Japan’s beloved children’s author, Sachiko Kashiwaba. Temple Alley Summer features two mysterious stories, which involve young Kazu and his best friend, Akari. Over the course of the summer, these two friends are challenged to solve the mystery of a hidden Buddhist temple, and the neighborhood ghosts it protects. The book also features beautiful illustrations by Miho Satake, who worked on both Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, making it a perfect book for any Studio Ghibli fan.

In this new novel, Silvia Moreno-Garcia hijacks classic noir and transports us to turbulent 1970s Mexico City. Set against the historical backdrop of the Corpus Christi Massacre, which disappeared many student activists and organizers, Moreno-Garcia seamlessly weaves Mexican culture and politics into the daily life of a lovelorn receptionist named Maite, and the unfolding mystery surrounding her missing bohemian neighbor and her cat.

The first in depth exploration of Nipsey Hussle's life which parallels the history of Los Angeles. An important record of his life, music and lasting contributions to our city.

In this charming coming-of-age story, 15-year-old Carlos’s unrequited love for a much older woman serves as the tragic metaphor for American consumerism as it clashes with traditional Mexican culture of the 1940s. Pacheco’s prose is sweet and nostalgic, but not lacking in directness. The afterword by Fernanda Melchor is a brilliant addition to this classic work.

In this sparse but sweet memoir, Rodrigo Garcia pays loving tribute to his parents, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Mercedes Barcha. Simply one of the best books I read this year.

A great introduction to the Brazilian racing hero, Aryton Senna.

In this brilliant addition to The Music Matters Series, author and musician, Stephanie Phillips chronicles the collective movement of Black Artists such as herself and Solange which is challening the limited imagination of the white mainstream.

Guaranteed to mak you sea sick.....
